Small — Most Popular

The perfect scaled-down strongman tool while still handling serious weight.

Fillable up to 63kg / 138lbs of sand. Excellent for two-hand swings, swipes, hammer swings, presses, carries, and more when loaded halfway or below.

Great for all ages, sizes, and abilities. Many traditional strongman tools are simply too large for some people, this gives you the same style of training in a more accessible format.

My preferred loading for heavy rotational, club, and mace-style movements: 16–20kg.

Medium — The All-Rounder

A highly versatile size for almost everyone.

Fillable up to approximately 73kg / 160lbs of sand. Still excellent for swings, swipes, and rotational movements when partially loaded, while having the capacity for scaled strongman-style training.

Typical loading:

• Rotational / club / mace movements: 16–30kg

• Strongman-style lifts: 30–70kg

Large — The Beast

A serious strength tool.

Fillable up to approximately 82kg / 180lbs of sand. Designed for carries, squats, lunges, shouldering, loading, and awkward strength work.

Less suited for between-the-leg swings due to its size, but partially loaded it becomes an incredibly versatile movement tool.

My preferred loading: 45–80kg.

The Design Story

The Gunny Sack has been nearly 30 years in the making.

Growing up around Scottish farms, I was always fascinated by the large sacks used for transporting materials. As I became more involved in training, I kept thinking how versatile that shape could be as a training tool.

The result is the Sandflail Gunny Sack a travel-friendly, adjustable strongman-style tool designed to combine the benefits of a heavy club, kettlebell, and sandbag.

The unique shape allows movements that traditional sandbags struggle with, while the different sizes make scaled strongman training accessible regardless of your size, strength, or experience.

When empty, it folds down small for easy travel—something that was essential to the design.

Fast, Simple Loading System

I wanted a closure system that was quick and practical. No fighting through layers of Velcro and zips just to change the weight.

Simply:

1. Fill with sand, crumb rubber, rubber mulch, or your chosen material

2. Secure with the supplied industrial-strength bungee cords

3. Train

The Gunny Sack adjusts in seconds, making one tool capable of replacing multiple pieces of equipment.

Designed and handmade in Scotland using premium Military Spec Cordura the same type of material trusted in demanding professional environments.

Warranty

Includes a 2-year manufacturer warranty with sensible use.

Normal drops and shoulder throws are fine, but repeated slamming or dragging on rough surfaces is not covered. Like any fabric-based product, excessive impact and abrasion will eventually cause wear.
